Dozens of counterfeit bills were seized by Belmont County authorities on Wednesday.
Sheriff Dave Lucas said investigators responded to two stores at the Ohio Valley Mall in St. Clairsville after employees reported receiving the fake $50 bills over the weekend. Deputies were said to have recovered 30 counterfeit bills as evidence.
Sheriff Lucas reported that surveillance cameras caught two black males and two black females spending the counterfeit cash. He urged area residents to visit the Belmont County Sheriff's Office Facebook page and notify authorities if any of the suspects look familiar. Tips can be phoned in to 740.695.7933 ext. 127.
Lucas said the bills will be kept as evidence. After they can be used to link defendants to the crime, they will be destroyed.
