CAMBRIDGE, Ohio -- Joblessness in east central Ohio dropped in July according to numbers released on Thursday by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.
Morgan County had the area's highest jobless rate at 11 percent, followed by Monroe and Jefferson Counties at 10.3 percent, Noble County at 9.9 percent, Coshocton at 9.7 percent, and Muskingum 9.4 percent. Guernsey and Harrison Counties check in at 7.8 percent, Belmont is at 7.2 percent, and Washington at 6.8 percent. Tuscarawas County has the area's lowest rate at 6.5 percent. All of the local numbers dropped slightly from June.
Ohio's unemployment rate remained steady in July at 7.2 percent, matching what it was a year ago and remaining slightly higher than earlier in 2013. Ohio's rate has hovered just below the U.S. unemployment rate, which dropped slightly to 7.4 percent for July.
