Associated Press

The Associated Press is the essential global news network, delivering accurate, insightful news from every corner of the world, 24 hours a day. Since its founding in 1846, AP has been the first to report many of history’s most important moments, and every day, AP journalists, photographers and videographers file news from the front lines of the world's biggest stories.

AP’s reporting, photography, audio and video are published and broadcast by the world’s leading newspapers, TV channels, apps, radio stations, websites and magazines—in fact, over half the world’s population sees AP news content on any given day.

As a leader in the field of journalism, AP fights for freedom of the press and the public’s right to know. Its reporters take great risks to file in-depth stories from countries where the press is otherwise restrained, and in the U.S., AP aggressively uses the Freedom of Information Act to advocate for transparency and accountability in government.

With more experience reporting and delivering news than any other agency, a well-earned reputation for independence and accuracy, and a fierce commitment to the people’s right to know, AP is the definitive source for trusted news.

NEW YORK (AP) - Neil Walker hit his ninth home run, tying for the major league lead, Matt Harvey won his second straight start and the New York Mets beat the Cincinnati Reds 5-2 Wednesday night to stretch their winning streak to six.

Walker's third-inning homer off Jon Moscot (0-2) extended the Mets' lead to 3-1 and tied the team record for home runs in April.

Harvey (2-3) won his second consecutive start after losing his first three. He overcame a first-inning home run by Zack Cosart and gave up two runs and seven hits in six innings. Mixing a changeup with a fastball that reached 97 miles per hour, Harvey struck out a season-high seven and walked one.

Addison Reed pitched a perfect ninth for his first save. Coming off a weekend sweep at Atlanta, New York has won nine of 10 to close within one and a half games of NL East-leading Washington.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Francisco Lindor drove in three runs and the Cleveland Indians spoiled the big league debut of Jose Berrios with a 6-5 victory over the Minnesota Twins Wednesday night.

Carlos Santana had three hits and the Indians avoided losing to the Twins on a walk-off hit for the third consecutive night. Cody Allen picked up his seventh save in seven tries after giving up a game-winning hit to Miguel Sano in the ninth inning on Tuesday night.

Berrios (0-1), the top pitching prospect in the Twins farm system, gave up five runs and six hits with five strikeouts in four innings. Byung Ho Park hit his fifth homer of the season and Danny Santana had three hits and an RBI for Minnesota.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Cleveland Indians have optioned right-hander Cody Anderson to Triple-A Columbus.

Cleverland made the move before Wednesday's series finale against Minnesota. The team had high hopes for Anderson coming into the season and he could have been in position to make a bigger contribution after starter Carlos Carrasco went down with a hamstring injury. But Anderson is 0-1 with a 7.65 ERA in four starts.

The Indians have off days on Thursday and Monday, meaning they don't have a need for a fifth starter for the next 10 days. The move allows Anderson to get some work in with Columbus.

Cleveland recalled left-hander Kyle Crockett to fill the roster spot.

NEW YORK (AP) - A person with knowledge of the details says the New York Knicks have interviewed former Cleveland coach David Blatt for their head coaching position.

Knicks President of Basketball Operations Phil Jackson met with Blatt this week, the person told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because details of the coaching search are private.

Blatt's interview was first reported Wednesday by Yahoo Sports.

Blatt was fired by the Cavaliers after leading them to the NBA Finals last year in his first season and a 30-11 record this season. The longtime successful international coach was a teammate at Princeton with Knicks general manager Steve Mills.

Kurt Rambis finished the season as interim coach after Jackson fired Derek Fisher in February. Jackson has said his preference is to hire someone he knows, naming Rambis as the only person who would definitely get an interview.
