Associated Press

The Associated Press is the essential global news network, delivering accurate, insightful news from every corner of the world, 24 hours a day. Since its founding in 1846, AP has been the first to report many of history’s most important moments, and every day, AP journalists, photographers and videographers file news from the front lines of the world's biggest stories.

AP’s reporting, photography, audio and video are published and broadcast by the world’s leading newspapers, TV channels, apps, radio stations, websites and magazines—in fact, over half the world’s population sees AP news content on any given day.

As a leader in the field of journalism, AP fights for freedom of the press and the public’s right to know. Its reporters take great risks to file in-depth stories from countries where the press is otherwise restrained, and in the U.S., AP aggressively uses the Freedom of Information Act to advocate for transparency and accountability in government.

With more experience reporting and delivering news than any other agency, a well-earned reputation for independence and accuracy, and a fierce commitment to the people’s right to know, AP is the definitive source for trusted news.

DeSclafani continues quietly good season

CLEVELAND (AP) - A person familiar with the contract says Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue is getting a multiyear extension with the NBA champions.

Lue, who took over the Cavs when David Blatt was fired in January and led Cleveland to the city's first championship since 1964, has agreed to the deal, said the person who spoke Monday night to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because it has not been signed.

Terms of the extension were not immediately known.

The Vertical reported Lue's new deal.

A journeyman player during his NBA career, Lue helped mesh the Cavs down the stretch of the regular season and into the playoffs. They became the first team in history to overcome a 3-1 deficit in the finals, beating Golden State on the road in Game 7.

Lue did not sign a new contract when he was promoted from associate head coach to replace Blatt.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - The Carolina Panthers have signed tight end Eric Wallace, a former college basketball and Australian football player who played the NFL version of football at age 14.

The team announced Monday that the 6-foot-6, 260-pound Wallace signed a three-year undrafted rookie contract worth the league minimum.

The Winston-Salem native played one year of basketball at Ohio State and three years at DePaul. While looking into basketball options overseas, he was approached about playing Australian Rules Football. He spent three seasons playing in Australia.

Earlier this month, Wallace approached Panthers wide receivers coach Ricky Proehl at the team's training facility. After running the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds, the Panthers signed him.

To make room on the 90-man roster, the Panthers waived wide receiver Kobi Hamilton.

CLEVELAND (AP) - Troubled Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon has been reinstated to the NFL on a conditional basis.

Commissioner Roger Goodell informed Gordon on Monday that he can rejoin the team during training camp and will be allowed to participate in meetings and conditioning work. The league said once Gordon meets clinical requirements, he will be allowed to participate in all preseason activities, including practices and games.

Gordon, who was suspended for a year for multiple violations of the league's drug policies, will be suspended for the first four games of the 2016-17 season. He is eligible to return to the team on Oct. 3. During his suspension, Gordon may participate in team meetings and other activities but can't practice.

Gordon met with Goodell last week, clearing the way for his partial return.

CHICAGO (AP) - Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett and Iowa cornerback Desmond King highlight the preseason all-Big Ten selections.

Barrett was selected to the East team along with Michigan defensive back Jabrill Peppers, Michigan State defensive lineman Malik McDowell, Ohio State linebacker Raekwon McMillan and Penn State running back Saquon Barkley by a media panel. Iowa quarterback C.J. Beathard and defensive back Desmond King, Northwestern running back Justin Jackson and linebacker Anthony Walker, and Wisconsin running back Corey Clement were West picks.

Barrett - 15-2 as a starter - enters his junior season in the top spot after losing out to Cardale Jones last year and then replacing him.

King, the 2015 Thorpe Award winner as the country's top defensive back, leads a team that went 12-2 and 8-0 in conference play.
